Chemical engineer - Client in Chemical industry

Reporting directly to the site manager, the Chemical engineer will have the main mandates of working with the engineering team for continuous improvement, project management support, development of process safety, operational risk of process as well as the industrial health, safety and environment (HSE) of the factory.

Main functions of the chemical engineer:
• Maintain risk management programs (HAZOP, LOPA, DHA, PHA, etc.) according to the expectations of the Site manager.
• Participate in multiple internal (corporate) & external (government, insurance) audits.
• Participate in and produce procedures for compliance programs and necessary certifications.
• Identify process safety hazards present in the factory and propose preventive measures necessary to eliminate or control them.
• Work to introduce process safety management programs in accordance with CSA Z767-17 / OSHA.
• Collaborate with the various operating departments on issues such as regulatory compliance, management of change (MOC), etc.
• Assist with various projects on health, safety and environment (HSE).
• Work in collaboration with the Operations Manager in the continuous improvement of chemical processes.
• Collaborate for safety culture programs implementation
• Collaborate/assist the plant engineer on environmental declarations for federal, provincial and municipal agencies.
• Work in collaboration with the Site Manager on special projects.
• Be involved in the DCS alarm management system as well as the implementation of interlocks and Management of change (Instrumentation and Control).

Chemical Engineer Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, petrochemical engineering, or any other relevant engineering
• A minimum of 2 - 3 years of similar experience in an industrial or chemical production plant
• Be a member in good standing of Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and have a valid Quebec engineering license
• Mastery of Microsoft Office tools
• Essential: Fluency in the French/English languages
• Essential: reading P&ID’s
• Asset: Work experience in a unionized environment
• Asset: Knowledge of environmental health safety (HSE)

• Good interpersonal skills and team player
• The candidate must have the ability to work on numerous projects at the same time and be able to adapt to changing priorities

Working conditions of the Chemical Engineer:
• Permanent full time 40 hours/week
• Monday to Friday daytime schedule
• Annual salary depending on experience
